Q: WHAT DO YOU DO FOR DIASTASIS RECTI?

A: We offer a consult that includes neuromuscular massage, kinesiology tape, and corrective exercise. You are fully dressed during the consult.

The treatment starts off with a test strip of tape on your wrist to check for any sensitivities and some neuromuscular massage on your back and legs. The short full bodywork session! The purpose of this is to increase visceral circulation and to stimulate your neuromuscular system.

Q: CAN YOU HEAL DRA WHILE PREGNANT?

Pictured is the Rectus Abdominus Muscle. It attaches at the pubis symphysis and 5-7 costal ribs.

A: We can tape you to prevent the diastasis from spreading and give you corrective exercise, but it is not realistic to expect to completely close the gap while pregnant. Women who have a significant diastasis while pregnant may greatly benefit from corrective exercises.

Q: I HAVE HAD LOWER BACK PROBLEMS SINCE I GAVE BIRTH. CAN THIS HELP?

A: Diastasis Recti can cause a wide range of issues in your kinetic chain. Some people experience lower back pain, abdominal pain, instability in the hips, digestive issues, pelvic floor dysfunction, and pain with exercise. Without actually consulting with you it is difficult to say if you have Diastasis Recti, and it is difficult to assess whether your issues are caused by the diastasis!

Q: HOW LONG DO TREATMENTS TAKE?

A: Treatments normally take less than 30 minutes.

Q: HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NECESSARY?

A: We can normally get people closed or almost completely closed in 2 visits. We recommend scheduling a follow up visit 10-14 days after your initial consult. Healing is greatly dependant on you. In order to give your body the best chance at healing, you must continue to do your corrective exercises. Sleep and a good diet are also important factors in healing!

Q: MY DIASTASIS IS VERY WIDE. CAN YOU HELP ME?

A: We will work on anyone as long as they do not have a visible hernia. If you do have a hernia, we would recommend surgery to fix it, or to consult with a physician to see if massage is safe for you.

Q: I HAD MY BABY A LONG TIME AGO, AND I AM NOT BREASTFEEDING. WILL TREATMENT STILL WORK?

A: We have worked on women as far as 24 years postpartum. (And they definitely weren’t nursing.) It is a common misconception that diastasis recti can be fixed only when nursing. It is never to late to work on your core stabilization.

Q: HOW SOON AFTER BIRTH CAN I SEE YOU?

A: We can set up a treatment immediately. However: Because healing is greatly dependant on corrective exercise, we recommend that you get cleared to exercise by your OB or Midwife before setting up a consult with us.

Q: CAN I BRING MY KIDS?

A: We offer in-home consultations that are very convenient for people with small children.

We have limited studio availability. Our studio room is kid-safe, and we even have a soft play mat and toys for the kiddos. The treatment doesn’t take long, and you do not need to be undressed. We are fine with you bringing your kids.

Q: WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

A: Wear comfortable loose clothing. We will need access to your tummy to perform the massage, and to tape your belly. I suggest a comfy maxi skirt, leggings, or sweatpants, and a comfortable loose-fitting top.

  1. I live in Massachusetts… I’ve never heard of this and wonder if someone might offer it near me?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi, Anne! Unfortunately the only practitioners of this technique live in Oklahoma at this time. We can bring a postpartum healing workshop to your area if there is enough interest! If you would like more information about that contact us at info@beautifullyconnectedwellness.com

      Thanks for visiting Beautifully Connected!

  2. How much for a session? And when you say most people can be closed in two visits, does it stay closed? I already do corrective exercises and work on posture and corrective movement.

    1. You can contact us directly to inquire about pricing!

Diastasis Recti is the direct result of stress on the linea alba. (The line of connective tissue between your main abdominal muscles.)

If you put stress on your linea alba by moving improperly, weight lifting improperly, exercising improperly, or becoming pregnant it can open again.

      I hope this helps. 🙂

    2. Rebecca: as of right now (01/01/19) treatments are $39.99 for in clinic. The price may go up as the years go by. The price is a little more than that if you want me to travel to you!
It normally stays close unless someone does something to reopen it. (IE: pregnancy, improper movement without use of tape to stabilization. Weightlifts improperly. )
      I hope that helps! 🙂
