What is a doula?
A doula is a trained birth professional who offers support to mothers and families at every stage of pregnancy.
What does a doula do?
A doula is a personal assistant for you during pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. We will give you the information you see, we are knowledgeable about labor and how to keep you comfortable, and we will support your wishes.
Does a doula take the place of my partner?
No! A doula is a professionally trained labor support professional who helps the partner support the mother. Your doula will be able to provide knowledge on all topics including: natural methods of pain relief, comfort measures, baby care, and Breastfeeding support.
At Beautifully Connected we believe that birth is an intimate experience to be shared between you and your partner. We will work with you as a team before birth so that you know all of the tricks of the trade. During labor we will be with you to support and comfort you both. You’ll have an expert on your side, and you won’t need to remember everything you learned in those childbirth education classes. We will be your birth encyclopedias!
How does Beautifully Connected work? What do you mean I get two doulas?
We operate on a partnership/ shared call schedule to accommodate all of our clients. We are unlike solo practitioners, and we will never miss your birth. Often times in a solo practice, if your doula is with another client when you go into labor, you will get whomever they choose as back up doula for you. With Beautifully Connected one doula on your team will support you while you are in labor. You will get familiar with both of them, and you won’t just get stuck with whomever. This is your birth, and it is an intimate experience. You deserve to get who you paid for!
Will my doula speak to my care provider for me in the delivery room?
No, we are not medical providers and cannot make medical decisions for you. We are here to empower you and encourage you to find your own voice so that you are able to express your desires to your care provider.
Are Doulas and Midwives the same thing?
No. A doula takes care of the emotional needs of the expecting family. A midwife takes care of the medical needs of the mother and baby.
I’m planning a medicated birth. Can I still benefit from the support of a doula?
Yes! A doula supports all types of labors and pregnancy outcomes. Read our blog about moms who are planning to have an epidural.
I’m planning c-section. Will a doula benefit me?
Yes! Doulas provide invaluable supports to moms who are planning a cesarean. We provide post operative support help with breastfeeding and bonding. We believe that every family deserves to be supported regardless of how they deliver!
How can we pay you?
We require a deposit of 50% to hold your spot on our calendars. The rest of the fee is to be given to us in the form of a check post-dated for your delivery! We offer free consultations so that you can get to know us and go over our contract.
Do you accept payment plans for doula services?
Yes! We are more than happy to work out a payment plan that fits your budget! We also often accept barters for up to 50% of our fee.
